Meet The Team: Co-Owner, Tami O’Grady

And here we are folks.  At the end of our meeting of the 321 Escape Room and Escape Room Entertainment Owners.  Don’t worry – we have plenty of managers and staff interviews coming your way!

So, I’d like to take the time to introduce you to, yet another family member, Tami O’Grady, wife of Terry, and stepmom to Tyler and Kacy.

Tami holds a B.S. Psychology & M.Ed. Educational Leadership, from UCF and USF respective.  She is married to Terry, with 6 children and 8 grandchildren.

Just like the rest of us – Tami’s introduction to escape rooms came from her family.  The shorter version: Tyler, had tried to get  Terry, and Tami to go play a game with him, but they were so busy at the time that they never went. Then, on a trip to California for my brother-in-law’s wedding, we had some free time one night, so we decided to go play a game. I absolutely loved it! The concept appealed to me greatly and I was hooked. After that, an opportunity here at home came up and 321 Escape was born.

When asked about her favorite part about working in escape rooms and at 321 Escape Rooms specifically, Tami says, “I love interacting with the customers after they have played a game with us and sharing the enthusiasm, we all have for the games. It is also very interesting to watch them move through the game, specifically how they solve the puzzles. We always see some unique solutions.”

Tami, like Tyler and Kacy, has a lot of ideas about the company’s next escape rooms.  And if Tami could design any escape room – her first choice would be, a Harry Potter room.  Tami says, “If licensing and copyright issues weren’t insurmountable, I would most definitely love to design a Harry Potter themed room. I would also love to play one. ?”

So what does Tami do outside of Escape Rooms? She enjoys reading, golf, creating and designing traditional photographic scrapbook albums or digital audio/visual albums, and scuba diving/beach.

Tami can’t pick a fictional character she would like to be, because as she says, “I have a hard time picking favorites for anything and I feel like this question demands I choose a favorite. There are so many wonderful fictional characters that have popped in my head, for many reasons, but I can’t choose just one, sorry!”

However, Tami does have a couple of slogans for her life.  She says, “I have two that have guided my life. The first a paraphrase of Matthew 7:12, Luke 6:31, or otherwise known as The Golden Rule: “Treat others as you would want them to treat you” Why? It is the right thing to do. I have an innate sense of fairness and ability to empathize and would not want to hurt anyone purposefully.

The other is a quote by Nelson Mandela, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” Why? My Mom instilled this in me from the time I can remember…Education comes first!”

If you ever wondered, Tami’s secret persona – then here’s a clue, she would become Samantha. Why? “Because when I was growing up, the television show Bewitched was very popular and I loved the Mom and her name, Samantha. I still love that name today.”

Tami’s favorite advice for newbies in an Escape Room, is to “Be very thorough in your search! Often, we overlook hidden items that can help move you through the room.”

Last and certainly not least, the place Tami most desires to travel to would be The Greek Isles.  Tami says, “I have always wanted to visit Greece, partially because I love Greek mythology and partially because photographs, I have seen, depict such a beautiful country. I would love to experience the ancient ruins of the Acropolis citadel with the Parthenon. I would love to visit Santorini as well; the photographs of the area are so picturesque. I always buy a magnet to put on my fridge.”

We hope you have enjoyed meeting the last owner on our team.  We are looking forward to introducing you to our managers and game masters soon!
